New Bop Brigade

Founded by bassist Steve Messick and pianist David Franklin, the New Bop Brigade has been performing in Seattle since its inception in 2002. The New Bop Brigade is a modern jazz quintet that performs original post-bop compositions by Steve Messick and David Franklin. The New Bop Brigade's music is both accessible and melodic, being inspired by the works of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock during the mid 60's, but it is never smooth.

The New Bop Brigade's 2005 self-titled release features Chris Stover on trombone, Travis Ranney on tenor sax, David Franklin on piano, Steve Messick on bass, and Ken French on drums. The music is both accessible and melodic, being inspired by the works of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock during the mid 60's, but it is never smooth. The New Bop Brigade CD contains nearly 74 minutes of original music!

Steve Messick's 1999 debut release, Transmissions From Planet Bass, features Jay Thomas on trumpet, Travis Ranney on tenor sax, John Hansen and David Franklin on piano, and Jon Wikan on drums. Transmissions From Planet Bass features of a mix of well-known jazz standards and originals.
